Dee Holdsworth at Dynamic Sports Therapy, has an in-depth understanding of anatomy and the interaction of bones, joints and muscles, that are the basis of the proven physical and mental therapy, that is massage. Rider and equine soft tissue therapy aids optimal athletic performance at all levels. Dee works with both horse and rider to focus on all elements of the combination.
Equine sports massage can benefit any horse, from family pony to the advanced sports horse, an old retired faithful friend or a young horse just starting out on their career. 60% of the horses body weight is muscle. Small muscle injuries can take up to 90 days to become apparent (by a change in attitude, decreased performance and lameness) by which time they may have caused more serious injury. Prompt attention to these ‘minor’ muscle injuries not only enhances a horse’s performance but also may prevent future problems.
Anyone taking part in regular physical activity, be it a professional, competitive, or amateur level or just for fun will undoubtedly encounter soft tissue problems at some stage. This is where Dee will make a difference – through trying to prevent these problems occuring, or atleast reduce the risk of recurrance, by providing a regular programme of sports massage. This may include in the training period, pre-event, inter-event and post-event massage, mobilization and stretching.
At all levels in equestrian sport, but particularly at international level, a riders fitness is as important as the horses. Equestrian sport is unique in that it relies on two athletes, of which both rely on one another working at their optimum. Dee works with both the horse and the rider to work on weaknesses found in treatment and then combines the two, enabling horse and rider to help one another, maximising performance capabilities.
